- the characters on the island are a psudo limbo state similar to an out of body experience. They are not dead.
- the characters in reality, or in the universe without the island, had a brief moment where they all could haves died on the plane but didn’t. In that brief moment the universe which they all crashed on the island started.
- over time the limbo island reality started taking more and more precedent.
- this is why in the island reality, once they got off the island they had to get back. They all couldn’t function.
- the man in black is some sort of evil that wants out of the limbo state and onto the universe without the island.
- he is trying to gather all the passengers from the plane to be able to fly out of the limbo state. Where if he did - the limbo world would cease to exist and instead start in the reality without the island. Evil would make it’s way out of the afterlife.
- there is no afterlife, just an alternate universe.
- the non island reality passengers are able to get glimpses of the limbo state by almost dieing and seeing the island reality. This happened to Charley, then Desmond.
